Slight discolouration may occur in any menstrual cup brand from the haemoglobin in the blood. You can ensure that your Me Luna® stays clean over a long period of use by following these tips:
Discolourations do not impair the function of the Me Luna®.
When using a menstrual cup it may sometimes develop an unpleasant odour. This occurs due to the protein compounds in the menstrual fluid. If the composition of the blood changes, your cup may develop a strange odour even though you have thoroughly cleaned it.
These unpleasant odours usually disappear when you put your well-cleaned cup in a dry, well-ventilated place (not in the sun) for a few days. The protein compounds break down when they come into contact with oxygen.
To prevent odours, always rinse the cup after each use with cold water.
The odour is harmless from a hygiene and health standpoint as long as the odour is not caused by a vaginal infection. If you notice a change in odour over a longer period of time, you should consult with your gynaecologist.
